11-year-old Girl Died After Stopping Her Mom In Traffic
The 11-year-old Brooklyn girl whose death from an asthma attack spurred a probe of the police officer in New York who allegedly stopped her mom from rushing her to a hospital.
Briana, who was about to enter the sixth grade at St. Francis Xavier School, died Friday after a severe asthma attack.
The circumstances of her shocking death have led to the suspension without pay of the five-year veteran, who allegedly refused her frantic mother's pleas to help Briana and even detained them briefly.
Police officials have said that all NYPD officers get CPR training so it is unclear why Mendez would have said he didn't know how to perform the procedure.
As of press time, no word on whether Melendez would be charged criminally for the incident.
