Man City v Man Utd prediction, betting preview, live stream

Venue: Etihad Stadium Date: Monday 30th April 2012 Kick-off time: 20:00

Sir Alex Ferguson has already said that this is to be the biggest Manchester derby in all his 25 years at the helm of Manchester United. Alternatively, Roberto Mancini is doing his best to downplay the significance of this match, but with his team’s chance to take the Premier League title on the line perhaps it should be the other way around.

3 points separate Man Utd and 2nd place Man City, and there will be no shortage of excitement in this match, which is always exhilarating regardless of table position. Despite Mancini’s efforts to play mind games and dismiss the importance of this match, a league title would go a long way towards validating City’s transformation over the last few seasons.

Current form for these two top teams is more worrisome for the visitors, with a shocking draw last weekend with Everton 4-4, after going ahead 4-2 at Old Trafford and a loss to Wigan just a week earlier. City is on a 3 game win streak in which they have scored 12 goals and pushed their squad into within striking distance of the league title.

The last Premier League meeting between these two teams was a defeat for United 1-6 at Old Trafford. In that match 4 Man City players scored, including a double each for Balotelli and Dzeko. This game will not lack for goals, as these teams have scored 21 goals combined over each side’s last 3 fixtures and both are near the bottom of the league in games in which they have not scored (MUFC 1st, MCFC 4th).

Team News

Man City: The only injury concern for Manchester City is Micah Richards who missed out on the victory over Wolves last weekend because of a hamstring. The good news is that tests confirmed there was no tear, and City are cautiously optimistic that Richards will make his return against Man Utd.

Man Utd: United will surely be rested as Sir Alex Ferguson has decided to take his squad to a golf and spa resort in Cardiff ahead of Monday’s match. Also, no new injuries for the Red Devils after last weekend’s clash with Everton. There are rumours that Michael Owen may try to make an impact and return to the bench, but nothing official to report.

Injuries to Nemanja Vidic, Anderson and Darren Fletcher have remained the biggest obstacle this season, as well as the injury to Paul Scholes which has put his future with the club in question.
