A huge explosion has rocked a power plant in the US state of Connecticut, killing at least five people and injuring 12, the local mayor has said.
The nearby Middlesex Hospital told the Associated Press it had received 11 victims, while the hospital in the state capital, Hartford, has treated three others.
Allentown, PA - A natural gas explosion in eastern Pennsylvania killed at least one person, leveled two houses, spawned fires that burned for more than seven hours and prompted the evacuation of hundreds of people. At least five others were unaccounted for Thursday.
Plants powered by natural gas are taking on a much larger role in generating electricity for the US Gas emits about half the greenhouse gases of coal-fired plants and new technology has allowed natural gas companies to begin to unlock gas supplies that could total more than 100 years at current usage levels.
State Assemblyman Jerry Hill, who represents San Bruno and surrounding cities, said he has heard multiple reports from constituents who had alerted PG&E of gas odors in the neighborhood before the disaster.
Five bodies were found Thursday after a natural gas explosion at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday rocked a working-class residential neighborhood.
