Manchester United must surely be worried by their below average performance in their 2-2 draw with Aston Villa last weekend. Late goals from Nemanja Vidic and Federico Macheda arrived just in time to paper over the cracks exposed in United’s defense by the relentless Villa attacks.
The England international has not played for United since his contract saga erupted last month and the 25-year old visited the United States last week to continue his rehabilitation from an ankle injury. However United assistant manager Mike Phelan revealed that Rooney is back in England and is in contention to play against Wigan though he is likely to start the game on the bench.
United will be desperate to collect all three points to avoid falling further behind to league leaders Chelsea after a poor performance against Villa last weekend. Manager Alex Ferguson expressed his unhappiness over the performance and is likely to make some changes to the squad ahead of the game this weekend.
