Captain Ricky Ponting and the swash buckling Shane Watson repaired the damage by posting a century long partnership before Suresh Raina affected a run out of Ponting who departed at a personal score of 71.

Michael Clark was dismissed by Turbanator Harbhajan Singh at a score of 14 and the calm Michael Hussey was wrapped on the legs by a venomous delivery of Zaheer. Hussey was back to the pavilion out for 17.
Zaheer clean bowled the next batsman Marcus North who failed to open his account.
This incident occurred when Ponting was run out for 71 by a direct throw by Suresh Raina.
Soon after Ponting was run out at 72 runs, he and Zaheer had an ugly exchange of words. It’s not clear who started it all, but Ponting seemed so upset with the words thrown at him by Zaheer that he went on to confront him.
With the Indian players standing in a pack, Ponting walked back towards them pointing the bat at them when he was intervened by Billy Bowden. Good sense prevailed after that and he walked back to the pavilion.
